Best Practice Competition and Award

The 19th IALA Conference 2018 Best Practice Competition will be held in Incheon, Korea, May 31, 2018.

The Conference Best Practice Competition encourages individual, working groups, teams, or organisations to share their best operational and managerial practices, process, systems, and initiatives, and learn from the experience of others.

It provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams who have been responsible for creating and/or managing the introduction and deployment of best practices.

IALA and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea (MOF) jointly host an international competition to foster a culture of innovation throughout all facets of their operation, processes, products and services in the field of aids to navigation.

All interested parties are requested to submit the best practices that they have improved and maintain a high standard of aids to navigation. The submission of the Application Form is due by November 30, 2017 at 11:59pm (Korean Standard Time, UTC+9, firm deadline).

Presentation (Round 2 - Present Your Best Practice)

The evaluation committee will review the presented best practices and award the top two an additional prize worth EUR 1,000 and EUR 800 respectively. IALA and MOF will present the awards at the closing ceremony of the Conference scheduled for June 2, 2018. The winners MUST be present at the Closing Ceremony in order to receive the Best Practice Award.

Best Practice Submission Guidelines

Papers should be written in English in a grammatically correct manner.

Papers are limited to up to 1,500 words.

Papers must be in MS-Word format.

Only text can be used in the submission - no graphs or pictures. Graphs and pictures can be used in presentation for Best Practice Competition.

Best Practice Titles should be less than 30 words, informative and contain the major key words.

All submissions should be made by the intellectual property owner or with the permission of the owner.
Wherever employer(s), client(s), or government authorisation(s) is needed, it is the responsibility of the author(s) to obtain such authorisation prior to submitting the final papers.

All submissions must reflect original work and must adequately document any overlap with previously published or simultaneously submitted papers from any of the authors.

IALA and MOF require a non-exclusive, royalty-free copyright license for all submitted papers.
This includes distribution on websites and in publications.

IALA and MOF reserve the right to edit submissions for style, grammar and length.

Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered unless the evaluation committee chair has permitted an extension.

All submissions will be assessed on originality, relevance, correctness, and clarity.

For blind review, some information may be removed from the original paper by collectors before distributing to the evaluation committee in an anonymous way.

All submissions will be treated as confidential prior to publication.
