From Korea Coast Guard
It is my great pleasure to hold the 19th IALA Conference 2018, one of the world largest gathering on the area of marine aids to navigation, in Songdo, Incheon, the maritime transportation hub of Northeast Asia trade and the International Business District.
Korea Coast Guard is the principal leading organization, which consists of 20 Vessel Traffic Service(VTS) Centers, 324 patrol vessels and 24 airplanes with 10,000 manpower who are responsible for preventing marine incidents, conducting search and rescue as well as safety management at sea.
Under the vision of 'Better Today than Tomorrow, Making the Safest Sea at this Moment' the Korea Coast Guard is fulfilling it's obligation with every effort to promote our capacity and innovate in order to protect the life and property of the people in the ocean.
The valuable and constructive insights presented by the members of the IALA during the Conference, under the theme 'Successful Voyages, Sustainable Planet', will enhance a great contribution to maritime traffic safety and protection of the environment around the world.
For your reference, Korea Coast Guard is planning to co-host with IALA the 46th VTS Committee and workshop for two weeks in April 2019 in Korea which we anticipate will contribute to the development and promotion of VTS. And thus, we ask for your continuous interest and participation on this as well.
I hope this Conference becomes a great opportunity both to the Republic of Korea and IALA to further its advancement. For last but not least, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all the Members who have traveled a long distance to attend this Conference.
Kyung Min PARK
Commissioner General of Korea Coast Guard
